COOMBE Harold

Enlisted Chelsea.

Appears in the Worcester/Worcestershire Roll of Honour Book for army casualties located in Worcester Cathedral, regiment given as Middlesex Yeomanry.

The following report appears in the Upton on Severn News, 13th October 1917:
The “Roll of Honour” of the gallant young men from the Upton district who have paid the great sacrifice – who have given their lives in order that their country may live free and untrammelled by the chains of militarism in its vilest form – has been increased this week by the receipt of the news which reached his mother, Mrs Coombe of Earl’s Croome, on Thursday that her son, Pte. H.A. Coombe, of the Yeomanry has died in France from wounds received in action on the 2nd inst.  The deceased about two years ago joined the Yeomanry and was in England until the end of last year when his regiment was sent to France, and he was transferred to the Infantry.

Upton on Severn News, 11th May 1918:
Mrs Coombe, Earl’s Croome School, has had information that her youngest son Frank has been missing in France since March 21st.  He was in the Ambulance Section doing duty for a man on leave, and was to be relieved on his first trip back with his patients, but did not return.  Mrs Coombe’s other son Harold died from wounds received in action last October.

Upton on Severn News, 10th August 1918:
Mrs Coombe, of Earl’s Croome Schools, whose son Pte. Frank Coombe, a motor ambulance driver, has been missing since March 21st, has just heard from him.  He is a prisoner in Germany and is well.
