MORRIS Archibald

Archibald Morris enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 29th January 1916 in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada.  On his attestation form he gave his date of birth as 13th August 1891 in Knightwick, Worcestershire, England, his current address as 20 East Bend Ave, Hamilton, Ontario, his occupation as a farm hand and his next of kin as his father, William Morris, Darkys Common, Knightwick, Worcester, England.  Archibald was 5ft 5ins tall with brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion.

On 21st August 1916 Archibald sailed from Halifax, Canada on the SS Olympia, disembarking in Liverpool, England on 30th August 1916.  He remained in England until 27th November 1916 when he was transferred to the 3rd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force for overseas service, arriving in France on 29th November 1916. Archibald was killed in action on 18th August 1917.

The Canada War Graves Registers (Circumstances of Casualty) records the following information on Private Archibald Morris:
“Killed in Action” in the trenches at Hill 70, East of Loos.

Appears in the Worcester/Worcestershire Roll of Honour Book for army casualties located in Worcester Cathedral.

Archer Morris has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Vimy Memorial.
