Further Information About JONES Walter Henry

Walter Henry Jones, Private, 200361, 9th Worcestershire Regiment, 26 Lombard Street, appears on the Absent Voters List for Stourport 1918.

Walter Jones transferred to the Machine Gun Corps in May 1919, he was formerly 2085, 7th (Territorial) Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment.  It is probable that he volunteered to stay in the army after the war ended.  The 282 Company had their Headquarters near Lahore in India.  Walter was the eldest son of Ben Jones (for many years one of the most consistent bowlers attached to Stourport Cricket Club).  He resided at Hartlebury Common and had written to his parents saying he was about to sail home from India shortly.  Afterwards a message came from the military authorities containing the announcement of his death on the homeward journey.
