John Robert Lovett was born at Cottesmore, Rutland in 1880, his baptism is recorded in Oakham Parish Church on 17th October 1880. From the 1881 census onwards the family surname was spelt Lovatt. He married Lilian Margaret Webb in 1907 and in 1911 the couple resided at 17 Worcester Road, Evesham when John was employed as an auctioneer’s clerk.
