Evesham Journal and Four Shires Advertiser, 5th August 1916:
HAMPTON MAN KILLED
Hampton has lost one more soldier through the war, namely Pte. Allan Jordan, of the Worcesters. The official news of his death was received on Sunday morning by his parents, Mr. and Mrs James Jordan, sen., of Fairfield, Hampton. The official report stated that he had been killed in action about July 6. Pte. Jordan joined the Army in September last, going to France in June. Previous to joining he was a market gardener under his father. He was a well-known footballer, and gained a medal while in the Hampton juniors. He also played for the Evesham Rovers. He was 32 years of age. On Sunday evening last a muffled peal was rung, and two special hymns were sung during the service at Hampton Church. They were “now the labourers task is o’er” and “For ever with the Lord.” The Dead March was played.
(Registered Allan Jordan at birth he was the son of James and Elizabeth Smith Jordan (nee Tarple) who were married in 1864.)
The clock on Hampton St Andrew’s Church is a war memorial to WW1 and is inscribed with the words: War Memorial 1914-18. The tenor bell is inscribed “also in memory of the sons of Hampton who died for the sacred cause of liberty and freedom”.
