Further Information About MEREDITH Stephen
Stephen Meredith attended Wollescote school but moved to Swansea before the outbreak of war. He volunteered for the Welsh Regiment and joined the 14th (Service) Battalion (1st Swansea). They crossed to France at the end of 1915 and went to the 38th (Welsh) Division. They took part in the early stages of the 1916 Battle of the Somme but suffered so heavily that the Division did not return to action until the 1917 Third Battle of Ypres. The Welsh were involved in the Battle of Pilkem at its start and Private Stephen Meredith was killed on the 5th August.
