The following information has been researched by The Black Country Society:
Harold Johnson was the son of Ernest and Sarah Johnson. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and joined the 135 AA Battery. In 1942 this unit was fighting in North Africa during the fluctuating fortunes of the 8th Army when Rommel took over leadership of the Axis forces. In June he broke through the main British defensive line at Gazala and captured Tobruk with its 35,000 Allied troops. Gunner Harold Johnson was killed in action on the 20th June 1942.
