SHARPE Frederick

Frederick Sharpe attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1904 to 1905. In 1910 he passed his Board of Trade exam for Second Mate in the Merchant Service. He enlisted as a Private in the Australian Imperial Forces on 25th August 1914, became a Sergeant in 1916 and was commissioned in February 1918. On the 8th August 1918 the Australians captured the village of Harbonnieres and Frederick Sharpe was killed in action during further advances.

Frederick Sharpe enlisted as a Private in the Australian Imperial Forces on 25th August 1914 at Morphettville, South Australia. On his attestation form he gave his place of birth as Worcestershire, England, his age as 23 years 6 months and his occupation as a fruit grower. His next of kin was his father, Walter Sharpe, Worcester, England. He was resident at Renmark, South Australia. Frederick was 5 feet 9 inches tall with dark eyes, dark hair and a dark complexion. On 16th June 1916 he was promoted to Sergeant, and struck off strength on 16th February 1918 when he received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant.
