Killed in Action
Mr and Mrs Wilkes, of Lickey Square, Bromsgrove, have received information from the War Office, that their eldest son, Private Alfred Ernest Wilkes, of the Royal Marine Light Infantry was killed in action on the 26th October 1917. Private Wilkes, who was 20 years of age, was formerly a member of the Lickey Church Choir and of the (–) Bible Class and Club. During his last (–) at home he took charge of a club of young (–). Much sympathy is felt with his parents, who have experienced a long period of suspense and anxiety, ending in the sad news which (–) put an end to their lingering hopes. Before the war Private Wilkes was chauffeur for Mr (–) Wood.”
