Robert Simpson-Hayward was born in 1913. He attended Malvern College in House 8 from 1928 to 1933.

On 16th August 1941 Robert Simpson-Hayward was on a training flight on Botha L6315. The aircraft crashed whilst coming in to land at Squires Gate, Lancashire on approach to the runway. Three of the four crew were killed in the crash.
