Further Information About REYNOLDS John Harry

John Reynolds was born on 16th June 1916. He entered Form 2 Kings School on 17th September 1927 when his home address was recorded as 95 Droitwich Road, Worcester. John had previously been educated at St Stephens C of E School.  John left Kings School from Form M6 in July 1934 and took employment as a clerk with the County Council.

The following information has been researched by Geoff Hill:
The campaign in the Western Desert was fought between the Commonwealth forces (with, later, the addition of two brigades of Free French and one each of Polish and Greek troops) all based in Egypt, and the Axis forces (German and Italian) based in Libya. The battlefield, across which the fighting surged back and forth between 1940 and 1942, was the 1,000 kilometres of desert between Alexandria in Egypt and Benghazi in Libya. It was a campaign of manoeuvre and movement, the objectives being the control of the Mediterranean, the link with the east through the Suez Canal, the Middle East oil supplies and the supply route to Russia through Persia.

113 Squadron reformed at RAF Upper Heyford in May 1937 as a day bomber unit and in April 1938 it left for the Middle East. After Italy joined the war, on the 11th June 1940 the unit participated in the first attack by the RAF on the Italian air force base at El Adem. On the 12th June 1940 the squadron participated in an attack on Tobruk, damaging the Italian cruiser San Giorgio. The squadron then moved to Greece in March 1941. At the time of writing, there is no information on the circumstances of John Reynold’s death.
