Raymond Newman was born on 14th October 1918 in Halesowen, Worcestershire.  He was captured on 15th February 1942 when Singapore fell to the invading Japanese forces. Prisoner of war records record his parents as Thomas Ernest and Nellie Newman, his home address as 120 Hayley Green, Halesowen, near Birmingham and his occupation as a Tube Worker.  He died from pneumonia and dysentery at Aomi, Japan whilst a prisoner of war in Japanese hands.
