Further Information About WOODWARD Gordon Stewart

Gordon Stewart Woodward was born at Pebworth in 1885, the son of William and Jane Woodward.  Prior to enlisting at Bromsgrove he was employed as a bricklayer.

Bromsgrove Droitwich and Redditch Messenger, 28th July 1917:
Mrs Woodward, Highfield Road, Bromsgrove received news on Thursday of the death from heatstroke on July 17th of her husband, Private Gordon Stewart Woodward, Worcestershire Regiment.  By the same post Mrs Woodward received a letter from her husband dated June 3rd stating that he was fit and never felt better in his life.  The deceased joined the army a little over a year ago and previously worked for Messrs Grey and Lacey.  He leaves a widow and two young children.  He was at one time a member of the Bromsgrove Company of Territorials.  It was Private Woodward who picked up a copy of the “Messenger” in the streets of Baghdad when that city was captured.
