Valentine’s mother Frances, was born in Stroud, Gloucestershire and his older sister Katherine was born in Chalford. In 1891 Frances aged 29, married, along with Katherine aged 4 and 3 year old Ernest, born Brixton, London, were resident with Frances parents in Chalford. Valentine Tardif was born in London in 1897. He arrived in France on 17th March 1915. He was awarded the 1915 Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. His mother received payment from the army on 13th February 1917. The sole legatee of his effects on 4th October 1919 was his brother Ernest.
