The birth of Alfred Arthur Stokes is registered in the December Quarter 1892 under the Upton Registration District.
Arthur Alfred Stokes was born on 4th November 1892 in the village of Powick, Worcestershire. He resided in the village when he was appointed as Police Constable No 9, Worcester Constabulary on 11th June 1912. He was single and his previous employment was with Mr F. Stokes in Powick as a gardener. Arthur was 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighed 12 stone 4lbs, his chest measurement was 36 inches and he had a fresh complexion with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He spent 4 years and 196 days with the constabulary, rising to Constable 1st Class, working at Police Headquarters in Worcester until 27th October 1912 and then at Halesowen police station from 28th October 1912 where he remained until he left the police force to enlist in the army on 23rd December 1916.
