Arthur Joseph Penny was born at Bromsgrove in 1896, the son of Thomas and Rosetta Penny. The family resided at 18 Providence Road, Sidemoor, Bromsgrove and Arthur was employed as a carpenter.

Mrs Penny of 18, Providence Road, Sidemoor, Bromsgrove, received information from the War Office on Thursday morning that her son, Private Arthur Penny, Worcestershire Regiment had been missing since August 24th. Private Penny had previously been reported wounded. He was 20 years of age on October 20th and joined the army under Lord Derby’s scheme. When in Bromsgrove, he was a carpenter at Messrs J and A Brazier. Mrs Penny’s elder son was reported missing in August and has since been reported dead. The two soldiers were Mrs Penny’s only children and their father died 15 years ago.
