Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger, 30th June 1917:
Private Bert Nokes, Worcestershire Regiment, a son of the late Mr Moses Nokes of Church Street, Bromsgrove, who a fortnight ago was reported severely wounded is now reported to have succumbed to his wounds on June 21st at a Rouen hospital. Deceased had been badly wounded in both thighs and the back and there was little hope from the first of his recovery. The news of his death was received by his sister, Mrs Wheeler, of Amiss’s Yard, High Street, with whom he made his home. Deceased was 19 years of age and before joining up in August last, worked for Mr H.E. Wilson, butcher, Worcester Street. Four of the deceased’s brothers are still serving the colours: Private V.M. Nokes in the Worcesters; Gunner T.J. Nokes, RFA; Private G. Nokes, Royal Warwicks; and Private A. Nokes, RAMC.
