Geoffrey Mould served as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers before transferring to the RAF in 1940. On the 4th June 1941 he was the pilot of Lysander V9605 which took off from Clifton airfield near York. Along with fellow pilot William Leonard Theys, their mission was a photographic exercise. Shortly after 11am the aircraft flew over Scarborough towards Lowdale Avenue where Geoffrey Mould lived at No 20 with his parents. The aircraft was so low it clipped the roof of 26 Lowdale Avenue and shortly afterwards it crashed on allotment gardens near Weydale Avenue killed both men instantly.
