William Lancelott enlisted in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 18th March 1915 when he gave date of birth as 30th August 1888, his occupation as a labourer and his next of kin and home address as his wife, Elsie Lancelott, Holly Dene, Penyfan Rd, Aberbeeg, Monmouth, later of Irene Cottage, Park Lane, Hallow, Worcester.

Draft for British Expeditionary Force 10th July 1916, joined Hawke Battalion on 26th November 1916. Killed in action on 4th February 1917. Exhumed from map reference 57d.R.2.b.1.1., identity disc found on body, buried in Queens Cemetery, Bucquoy, France, Grave IV. E. 19. in 1919.

Appears in the Worcester/Worcestershire Roll of Honour Book for naval casualties located in Worcester Cathedral.
