HMS Belmont was on escort duty of a Canadian troop convoy which left Halifax, Nova Scotia on 30th January 1942. She was South of Newfoundland when she was hit and sunk by a torpedo fired from U-82. There were no survivors from the ship’s crew of 138 men.
John Keeling has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
