After the outbreak of the Second World War on 3rd September 1939 a National Registration Day was organised to take place on 29th September 1939. By this date Bromsgrove School had relocated to the Abernant Hotel, Llanwrtyd, Breconshire, Wales. Ivor A. Jones is recorded as a student at the school in the hotel. His date of birth is given as 24th February 1922.

At the time of his death Ivor Jones was serving with 1655 Mosquito Training Unit. On the night of 30th August he was flying Mosquito KB207 cross country when he encountered severe turbulence near Galashiels, Scotland, causing his aircraft to disintegrate
