Further Information About HOBSON James

James Hobson lived at 7 Lion Street, Stourbridge. He attended Enville St. Council School and was then apprenticed as a plumber to Mr A.H. Guest. He had been a member of the Stourbridge Territorial Company and volunteered for service in 1914. He went overseas with the 1/7th Worcesters and served with them for over three years. At some point he was seriously wounded and had to convalesce in Britain. He was then transferred to the 8th Gloucesters in the 19th Division. In March 1918 they were faced with the first German Spring Offensive near Cambrai and suffered very heavy casualties in their retreat. Lance Corporal James Hobson was killed on the 28th March; he was 22 years of age and he is also commemorated on St. Thomas’s church memorial.
