Further Information About HAYNES Ernest

Ernest Haynes was born on 12th November 1883 in Suckley, Worcestershire. He lived in Dunley, Stourport, Worcestershire when he was appointed as Police Constable No 50, Worcester Constabulary on 1st November 1907. He was single and his previous employment was as a baker for Mr E. Morgan in Birmingham. He was 5 feet 8 and three quarter inches tall, weighed 11 stone 8lbs, his chest measurement was 37 inches and he had a fresh complexion with grey eyes and brown hair. Ernest spent 7 years and 222 days with the constabulary, rising to the rank of Constable 1st Class and working at Police Headquarters in Worcester until 1st December 1907 and then at Stirchley police station from 2nd December 1907 until 11th November 1910. On 12th November 1910 he transferred to Cradley police station until 25th May 1915, on 26th May 1915 he transferred to Bromsgrove police station where he remained until he left the police force to enlist in the army on 11th June 1915. Between 26th November 1914 and 3rd January 1915 Ernest was off sick for a total of 39 days. He married Ada E. Davis from Birmingham on 22nd February 1916.

Acting Lance Corporal Ernest Haynes, P/1665, Military Police, Mounted Branch. Late of Dog Inn, Dunley, he was killed by a shell whilst on police duty in France. His brothers, Walter, Dick and Frank are still serving.
