Appears in the Worcester/Worcestershire Roll of Honour Book for army casualties located in Worcester Cathedral under Stourbridge casualties, surname spelt Hancox with the information: Somerset Light Infantry.
Harry Hancock enlisted in the Somerset Yeomanry. By 1918 the troopers had become dismounted troops and fought as infantry. The 1/1st West Somerset Yeomanry was in the 74th Division which had arrived on the Western Front from Egypt in May 1918. It then became actively involved in the Advance to Victory which began on the 21st June 1918. They advanced in the Arras sector and the Hindenburg Line was breached on the 29th September. They then fought towards the German frontier but Private Harry Hancock was wounded and he died on the 22nd October. He is also commemorated on the St. Thomas’ church and the Methodist church memorials.
