Alfred Griffiths was born in Birmingham on 22nd September 1874, the son of John and Ellen Griffiths. He enlisted at Lichfield and went to the Balkans on 21st July 1915.

Extract from De Ruvigny’s Roll Of Honour:
Educated at Borough County School, Birmingham. He enlisted on 16th November 1892. He Served in the South African War and took part in operations in Wittenberg, Transvaal and Cape Colony. Received a commendation in the form of the Queen’s Medal with three clasps and the King’s Medal with two clasps. He was Discharged on 15th November 1904, subsequently working for the Austin Motor Company.
Alfred Griffiths re-enlisted on 8th August 1914.
