Further Information About FLETCHER Gilbert Arthur
Gilbert Fletcher did not die during the Great War. He was born in Kemerton in 1898, the son of William and Ellen Fletcher. By 1911 the family had moved to Severn Stoke where Gilbert lived with his parents and his younger brother Harold. In June 1916 Gilbert enlisted as a Private in the Royal Army Service Corps, service no M2/221857. At the time of his attestation he gave his age as 18 years 4 months, his address as 44 Knight Street, St Johns, Worcester and his occupation as a Chauffeur. He was mobilised on the 7th September 1916 and after training in the UK he was posted overseas, arriving at Rouen, France on the 30th March 1917. On the 25th September 1917 he was compulsorily transferred to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, returning the R.A.S.C. on the 26th April 1919. He was demobilised and transferred to the army reserve on the 30th December 1919 when his home address was Henwick House, Hallow Road, Worcester.
On the 15th March 1924 Gilbert married Frances Priscilla Forster Dorn in Swine Parish Church, Yorkshire. During WW2 Gilbert served in the Sproatley Home Guard near Hull. He died during the December Quarter 1980.
