John Fisher was born at Bromsgrove in 1899, the son of Thomas and Margaret Ann Fisher nee Saunders. Thomas was employed as a saddler; the couple had 6 children:

Mr and Mrs Thomas Fisher, of 150 Worcester Street, Bromsgrove, have received information that their youngest son, Private J.D. Fisher, was killed in action on 14th or 15th October. He was 19 years of age, and enlisted in March 1917. He went out to France, and took part in the big push in July. He was as a boy a member of the Parish Church Choir for several years, and was a member of the Boy Scouts Troop, in which he was the leader of the Bugle Band.
