Egbert Thomas Cook was born at Alderton, Gloucestershire in 1882, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Cook. He married Mary Ann Dyer on the 24th March 1913 in the Parish Church at Great Washbourne, Gloucestershire and the couple had at least two sons, Thomas Frederick born on 11th June 1913 and Cecil born 10th November 1915. Egbert served as a Private with the Devonshire Regiment and later the Labour Corps, remaining on Home Service throughout the war. He was demobilised on the 30th May 1920.
