William Barrell married Edith Ellen Jones Evans at Tiberton, Herefordshire in 1901 and the couple had 2 children, Albert William born in 1904 and Alice Elizabeth born in 1906. Edith died aged 28 in 1907. In 1911 William, aged 37, widower was a boarder along with his 2 children in the home of Robert and Mary Keane at North Griffin Farm, Blaina, Monmouthshire. William was employed as a Carter at Blaina Colliery. Following William’s death on the Western Front in 1915, payments were made on 27th December 1915 and 26th July 1919 to his sister, Mrs Mary Jane Keane, for his children.
