Herbert Barnwell was born in Birmingham on 4th October 1896, the son of Herbert and Phoebe Barnwell of 197, Warren Road, Washwood Heath, Birmingham. He was employed as a Clerk.
Herbert went to France on 9th July 1915 and we was awarded the Military Medal at some point whilst serving during WW1. He was demobilised in 1919 when he was deemed a Class Z reservist and although in civilian life , he could be recalled to combat duties any time up till March 1920, when the Class Z reserve status was abolished. He died in 1973 aged 76.
