Further Information About BARKER William

Appears in the Worcester/Worcestershire Roll of Honour Book for army casualties located in Worcester Cathedral.

William Barker was born in 1878 at No 8, Holt Village, the son of William and Harriet Barker.  His father was a traction engine driver.  William enlisted in Worcester in 1914, his occupation on the 1911 census is given as an attendant at the Powick Asylum.  Although William Barker is not shown as a casualty on the Roll of Honour, he is the only Sergeant found in military records in the Gloucestershire Regiment.  Presumably he went to work for the Austin Motor Company between 1911 and 1916.

William Barker has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
