Discrepancy between date of death given on memorial and on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

John William Allden enlisted in the Royal Garrison Artillery on 15th February 1916 at Great Yarmouth.  On his attestation paper he gave his address as 6 Rock Rd., Hurst Hill, near Bilston, his age as 26 years 132 days and his occupation as a carpenter’s assistant, late police constable.  He remained in England until 7th July 1916, joining the British Expeditionary Force in France on 8th July 1916. He died of shotgun wounds to his head and chest at No 58 casualty clearing station in France.
