Albert Reade enlisted in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 17th July 1915 when he gave his date of birth as 10th July 1897, his occupation as a Labourer, his home address as School Street, Honeybourne, Worcestershire and his next of kin as his father, Thomas Reade, of the same address. Albert was 5 feet 3¼ inches tall with brown hair, grey eyes and a fair complexion.
Albert’s service details record that he was drafted at Blandford from the 7th Reserve Battalion to Anson Battalion, Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, on 5th December 1915. He disembarked from H.M.T. Northlands at Alexandria on 17th December 1915. After leaving Alexandria on 2 further occasions for unspecified Overseas service, he joined the battalion at Mudros, Greece on 5th February 1916 where he remained until 15th May 1916 when he boarded HMT Minewaska bound for Marseilles, France. After a spell in hospital in December 1916 followed by a further admission in early February 1917, he was discharged to join his unit on 13th February 1917. Albert was killed in action on 17th February 1917.
