Ronald Williams received his commission to the rank of P/O on probation on 27th February 1941 (with seniority of 5th February 1941) rising to F/O exactly a year later with the same back-dated seniority of 22 days and to F/Lt on 27th February 1943 with the same back-dated seniority. For service with 51 Squadron he was awarded the DFC, Gazetted on 20th April 1943. He was posted to 158 Squadron on 13th April 1943 and killed on 14th July 1943 while flying Ops to Aachen in Halifax JD116.
Ronald Williams was the pilot of Halifax JD116 which took off from Lissett at 23.34 on the night of 13th July1943 as part of a raid on Aachen, Germany. The aircraft crashed 5km north east of Geilenkirchen. The cause of the loss of the aircraft was not established.
