Leonard Westwood was born at Bromsgrove in 1893.  Prior to the war he was employed as a button maker.  He enlisted at Birmingham and went to France on 2nd June 1915.

Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger,12th August 1916:
News reached Bromsgrove on Thursday that Private Leonard Westwood, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry son of Mr and Mrs George Westwood, Highfield Road, Rock Hill, Bromsgrove was killed in action on July 30th.  In a letter to the deceased’s parents, a non-commissioned officer states that the loss of Private Westwood will be felt by all who knew him.  Private Westwood was 23 years of age last May and enlisted in August 1914.  He proceeded to the front on his birthday May 31st 1915 and until the time of his death had seen a great deal of fighting without receiving any injury.  He was a signaller.
