The following information has been researched by Geoff Hill:
In 1939 Leslie Twinberrow was married and living at 45 Windsor Avenue, St John’s, working as a carpenter and joiner.

Allied troops made a series of landings on the Algerian coast in early November 1942. From there, they swept east into Tunisia, where the North African campaign came to an end in May 1943 with the surrender of the Axis forces.

Bone was occupied by Allied forces on the 12th November 1942 and became important as a supply port, and for its airfield. The 70th General Hospital was there during the early months of 1943.

A Royal Engineers Artisan Works Company comprised mostly men with particular skills such as carpenters, plumbers and electricians, above and beyond the basic skills of building labourers. At the time writing, no information is available about the actual role of 702 Company or the circumstances which resulted in the death of Leslie Twinberrow.
