Awarded Military Medal (M.M)

Alfred Turner was the younger son of Thomas and Sarah Turner. Before joining the Chums Company in September 1914 he was employed at Hatley St George.  During his three years of service he was gassed and wounded in 1916 and awarded the military medal in August 1917.  He was killed on 20th January 1918 whilst out of the line by an accidental discharge of a rifle.

Malvern News, 3rd November 1917:
Sgt A.N. Turner, Worcestershire Regiment (the younger son of Mr and Mrs T. Turner of Rose Cottage, Malvern Common) has been awarded the M.M.  He joined the Chums Company in September 1914 and was gassed and wounded in 1916.

Malvern News, 23rd February 1918:
Sgt Alfred Noel Turner of the Worcestershire Regiment (son of Mr and Mrs T. Turner of Rose Cottage, Malvern Common) has been killed in Italy by an accidental discharge of a rifle, while out of the line.  Prior to the outbreak of war he was employed at Hatley St George.  He then joined the Chums Company, and saw nearly three years service.  He was awarded the M.M. in August 1917.  The Captain of his Company wrote: €œAll the officers wish to express their sympathy to you.  Your son was well liked by everyone.  He always did his duty most nobly and conscientiously.€  A Chaplain says: €œWe all mourn the loss of a gallant soldier and comrade.€  The Sergeants of the Company also expressed their sympathy.
