Further Information About SMITH Harry

In Cowleigh Parish Magazine the Vicar (Rev R. H. Isaac Williams) writes: “We are particularly sorry to report the second death among our convalescent soldiers at St John’s Red Cross Hospital. Private Harry Smith was educated at Cowleigh School, and was connected with the Church: and curiously was sent to Malvern to regain strength after a serious illness and operation. He seemed to be growing stronger at the first, be then had a relapse and took to his bed. He gradually grew weaker till he passed away, and was laid to rest amid the children’s hymns in Cowleigh Churchyard. Our deep sympathy is extended to his parents and to the young lady who he was so soon to have claimed as his bride. May he rest in peace.”
