Enlisted at the outbreak of the war in the London Regiment, obtained a commission in the Berkshire Regiment in December 1914.

Born January 12, 1893. Fell in France, July 1, 1916.
Hugh Rowley was the elder son of the Reverend H.S. Rowley, Rector of Wretham, Norfolk. He passed on to the Hostel from the Cathedral Choir School in January, 1908, with a House Scholarship, entering the Fourth Form. He left in December, 1910, to start engineering. At the outbreak of the War he enlisted in the London Regiment, and obtained his commission in the Berkshire Regiment in December, 1914. He was promoted Captain in April, 1916. He fell in the attack on La Boiselle on July 1st after much faithful service.

A Memorial Service for The Men of Worcester and the Neighbourhood who have laid down their lives in the war was held in Worcester Cathedral on All Saints Day, 1916 at 7.30pm. 2nd Lieut. H.T. Rowley, Royal Berks is listed on the Roll of Honour in the service booklet under Old Vigornians.
Hugh Rowley has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Thiepval Memorial.
