Resident Kidderminster, enlisted Birmingham

H.G. Powell 1st/1st Worcester Yeomanry, 8th Draft, embarked at Devonport 6th June 1916 for service with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, disembarked at Alexandria, Egypt on 16th June 1916.  Died 4th November 1918.

Aston Fields Man Dies of Malaria
Mrs Powell, of 4, Stoke Road, Aston Fields, Bromsgrove, has received official notification that her husband, Corporal Henry George Powell, Worcestershire Yeomanry, died of malaria in Palestine on the 4th November 1918. Corporal Powell was born in Cheltenham in April 1887, subsequently moving to the Bromsgrove District, where he attended Finstall School. He married Miss Alice Smith in March 1912, and lived at 4, Stoke Road, Aston Fields. He joined H.M. Forces on 21st October 1915, and proceeded overseas on the 16th June 1916, with the 1st Queens Own Worcestershire Hussars. He was 31 years of age in August, and he leaves a widow and two young children. Prior to joining the forces Private Powell was employed as a groom-gardener to Mr Wilfred Brooks, Finstall Croft.
