POLLARD Oswald Peter

Oswald Peter Pollard was born on 24th September 1885 in the parish of St Peter, Worcester.  He lived in London Road, Worcester when he was appointed as Police Constable No 257, Worcester Constabulary on 6th August 1913.  He was single and had spent 3 years in the army as a Fitter, last based at Pirbright Camp.  He was discharged from the 2nd Battalion, Grenadier Guards, Private No 14838 on 8th July 1913 but remained in the army reserve.  He was 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighed 12 stone, his chest measurement was 35 inches and he had a fresh complexion with grey eyes and brown hair.  Oswald spent 1 year and 167 days with the constabulary rising to Constable 2nd Class working at Police Headquarters in Worcester until 31st October 1913 and then at Oldbury police station from 1st November 1913 until he rejoined the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards on 5th August 1914.  His records note that his actual police service was 1 year although he is shown as remaining at Oldbury until 19th January 1915. However, he died on 19th January 1915 in the 7th Stationary Hospital, Boulogne from a gunshot wound to the right shoulder.
