On the night of 21st/22nd June 1944 Dennis Palmer was part of the crew of Lancaster ND695 (EA-B), one of 130 Lancasters taking part in a bombing raid on the synthetic oil plant at Wesseling, 15 miles south of Cologne, Germany. It is believed that his aircraft came down in the North Sea after combat with a night fighter.
