Evesham Journal and Four Shires Advertiser, 20th May 1944:
SECOND SON KILLED – EVESHAM FAMILY’S BEREAVEMENT
We regret to announce that Driver Charles Henry Pace, second son of Mr. and Mrs. C.S. Pace, of 202, Cheltenham Road, Evesham, has died of wounds received by him in action. Driver Pace was 25 years of aged and joined up in 1940. He went abroad to Malta in the same year and served on the island during its heaviest air raids and epic siege. He was later transferred to Algeria where he served in the North African campaign, and from there he went to Italy. His parents had not seen him for four years. The news is all the more tragic by the fact that Driver Pace’s brother, Arthur Edward was killed while serving in the R.A.F. some two years ago. His other brother, Thomas Sydney, was discharged from the R.A.F. after serving in France. Educated at Merstow Green Schools, Driver Pace was very well known in Evesham where for some years he an altar server at All Saints Church. He played table tennis for the Academical Table Tennis Club and took part in cross country races for the Vale of Evesham Harriers. He was formerly employed in Coventry. His fiancée, Miss Joyce Bearcroft, of Albert-road, Evesham, is now serving in the A.T.S.
