Roland Norman, of Robins End Cottages, was the only Eastham-born soldier killed in World War 2. Ray Cox recalls: “The whole parish was shocked and saddened by the news of the death of Roland Norman who lived next door to us with his parents and brother, Cyril. He was killed in action serving with the Worcestershire Regiment in France. He will always be remembered as a quiet, unassuming lad much liked and respected by all.”
