Norman Newey was born on 29th November 1919, the son of Henry William and Annie Maud Newey of Dudley, Worcestershire. He entered Foster House, Old Swinford Hospital on 17th December 1928.
On 21st November 1940, No 221 Squadron was reformed as part of Coastal Command. The squadron flew Wellington aircraft on reconnaissance and anti-submarine patrols in the Atlantic.
