Hugh Marston was born in 1907. He attended Malvern College in House 9 from 1921 to 1925.

HMS Poulmic was a former French tender taken over by the Royal navy after the surrender of French forces. She was used a minesweeper in and around the Plymouth area. On the 7th November 1940 whilst carrying out these duties, the ship struck a mine and exploded, sinking rapidly with the loss of her French crew and Lieutenant Hugh Marston.
