LIVINGSTON Alexander

Alexander Livingston was born on the 23rd January 1911 at Kings Norton, Birmingham. On the 10th January 1928 he enlisted as an Aircraft Apprentice in the Royal Air Force for a duration of 12 years’ service commencing on the 23rd January 1929 when he reached the age of 18. At the time of his enlistment he gave his occupation as a Scholar and his next of kin as his father, Mr H.B. Livingston, 53 Raddlebarn Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham. Alexander was described as 5 feet 4 inches tall with brown hair, blue eyes and a fresh complexion.

On the night of 21st/22nd May 1940 Alexander Livingston was one of a crew of three who took off from Faux-Villecerf, France in a Fairey Battle Mk 1 on night combat operations. The aircraft was shot down at approximately 02.00 hours and crashed at Montcornet, Aisne, France. Two of the crew survived the crash and were taken as Prisoners of War. Alexander Livingston was posted as missing, presumed killed in action. His body was never found.
