Further Information About KNOWLES Frederick
Frederick’s family moved to 37 Baldwin Road, Stourport only in early 1916. He seemed to have such a brilliant career in front of him, having been successful in one examination after another and had taken his degree at Birmingham University. For two years he was a teacher at Shrewsbury County Schools, before enlisting in June 1915. Frederick was struck by a piece of shell during a heavy bombardment.
On the 3rd September, the 16th Royal Warwicks, as part of the 18th Brigade, 5th Division, were involved in the Battle of Guillemont.
Frederick’s photo appears in the Birmingham Weekly Post, 7th October 1916.
An obituary for Frederick Knowles appears in the Stourport Parish Magazine for January 1917.
Frederick Knowles has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Thiepval Memorial.
