Further Information About JONES Jack Oliver
The surviving service records for Jack Jones are in very poor condition with many sections almost illegible and sections destroyed by fire or water. From the remaining information it can be ascertained that he enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment on 14th February 1916 when he gave his age as 18 years and 3 months, his address as Ockeridge, Wichenford, Worcestershire and his occupation as a farm labourer. His next of kin was his father, Arnold Jones of the same address. After attesting Jack was immediately posted to the army reserve before being mobilised on 13th May 1916. In June 1917 he was transferred home due to being under age where he remained until 6th April 1918 when one assumes he reached the age of 19 and could be posted for overseas service. Prior to this date, on 13th January 1918, Jack was posted to the Royal Scots Fusiliers with whom he went to France in April 1918. He died of wounds received in action at 105 Field Ambulance on 24th September 1918.
