Ernest Huntington enlisted as Private George Stapleton in the Australian Infantry on 7th January 1915 at Roma, Queensland. On his attestation paper he gave his place of birth as Malvern, Worcestershire, his age as 24 years 5 months, his occupation as a Labourer and his next of kin as his stepfather, H. Kempson, €œEastby€, Malvern, England. Ernest was 5 feet 9½ inches tall with a fair complexion, bluish eyes and dark hair.
He proceeded to join the Middle East Expeditionary Force on the Gallipoli Peninsula on 4th September 1915. His service papers next record him as disembarking at Mudros from Alexandria on 9th January 1916. He left Alexandria on 14th March 1916, arriving in Marseilles on 19th March 1916. Ernest died of a €˜not yet diagnosed’ disease at the 6th Field Ambulance, Armentieres, France on 25th April 1916 and was buried in Erquinghem Cemetery by Chaplain W.C. Smith.

Pte E.H. Huntington has died at the front on 25th April with the A.I.F. He was the elder son of the late Reverend H.E. Huntington and Mrs Kempson of Eastby, Malvern. Age 25.
